We have some fabulous team members across our three brands, and we love to shine the spotlight on them!

Today we’re going behind the scenes at The Boston Shade Company to introduce you to Nick Romano, lead shade installer on the install team.

How and when did you get into the field of window treatment installations?

I got into installing window treatments when I was about 15 years old. My mother is the one who actually got me into it, she had a successful drapery workroom when I was growing up.

I used to go on jobs with her and install draperies and roman shades as well as cellular blinds, so technically it was my first job. I think being exposed to the industry at such a young age really helps with my job now here at System 7.

As technology plays a large role in many areas of life today, how has it impacted your job with regards to shades – has it been challenging/exciting to learn the ins and outs of automated shades?

It has been very exciting to see how technology has changed the ‘shade world,’ every day is a learning experience. Who knew you would ever be able to control your shades from your phone?!

Of course, there will always be challenges when dealing with new technologies but being able overcome them and put smiles on our clients faces makes it worth it. It’s very exciting to see where technology will take us in the future! We’re already doing things that I could never have imagined.

What is a typical day on the job like for you?

My typical day starts at the warehouse gathering supplies and picking up shades to be installed that day. After that, we’ll usually stop and gas up the van and grab some coffee to get ready for the commute! Since many of our customers are in downtown Boston, dealing with traffic comes with the territory.

For most of the day, myself and the other Boston Shade Company installers are busy doing installations, taking measurements for upcoming jobs, or performing routine service checks. Our day ends back at the warehouse where we clean out the van and get ready for tomorrow’s installations!

Other than window treatments, how do you fill your time? Hobbies? Travel plans?

I collect sneakers. I guess you could say I’m a ‘sneakerhead.’ At last count I had well over 200 pairs. I have a room dedicated to them! I enjoy watching movies and playing video games, hanging with friends, family and my Golden Retriever, Maddie. I would love to travel to Italy someday! That is definitely on my bucket list.

Thank you, Nick!
