Staff Spotlight: Meet Ashley Jacobson from System 7

Posted on by admin

Ashley Jacobson, Director of Operations for System 7

Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Ashley Jacobson who is the director of operations for our three brands: System 7, Wolfers Lighting, and The Boston Shade Company.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? Where did you go to school and what did you study?

Ashley: I was raised in New Hampshire, and I attended Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston for architectural design.

What drew you to study architecture? How does architecture relate to technology design?

Ashley: My family is very hands on when it comes to the built environment, so I have always had an appreciation for how things were constructed. Still, I never expected it to lead me here. But I’m glad it did.

Integrating technology control systems into a new home requires planning at the earliest stages of home design, so we start with the architectural drawings. Knowledge of building and architecture is essential if you want to design a system that is simple and beautiful. Placement of lighting, shades, technology components, and the modules that control them needs to be done in the most unobtrusive way in order to complement and enhance the home’s design.

My background has also helped me understand and confidently execute the requirements of various contractors, like builders, electricians, plumbers, and HVAC professionals. It’s important to speak their language.

Tell us how you got started at System 7 and how your role has evolved.

Ashley: During my interview, I was asked to create some technical drawings. At the end of the day, I was part of the System 7 team. As the company grew, my role progressed from technical designer to project manager and now my current role overseeing System 7’s operations team.

What is something you can tell us about the three brands as a whole, and is there anything exciting coming up for them?

Ashley: The recent mergers between System 7, Wolfers Lighting, and The Boston Shade Company have really allowed us to be more than a technology integrator. The result is one company that offers not only lighting and shades, but also controls and home automation that creates a complete solution for the luxury home market. In 2019, our new Experience Center in the Boston Design Center will help us revolutionize the way people integrate technology into their new home.

Thanks, Ashley!
