Our Holiday Lighting Tips

Posted on by admin

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, or so the famous song goes…but we’re willing to bet that you can make it even BETTER if you give some thought to your lighting.

Here are a few of our tried and true holiday lighting tips that are sure to make your parties and family get-togethers even merrier.

  1. Plug in your light strings before you begin decorating. Testing them first is a smart strategy because having to unstring most of your handiwork to replace a burned out bulb will not leave you feeling joyful.

  1. Do a dry run. A night or so before the big party, walk through the house and see if the lighting poses any issues. Venture outside as well, checking for any hazards your guests might encounter on their way to your front door. Replace burned out lamps and make sure that pathways are illumi
nated. (Check out some other exterior lighting strategies here.)

3. Warm up the lighting. Want to create a cozy vibe with LEDs, but think it’s impossible? Think again. You can now get LED lamps that use warm dim technology (where an LED light fixture glows more amber as it’s dimmed, similar to an incandescent lamp).

4. Integrate with your existing lighting controls. Lighting that integrates with your smartphone or tablet can help make for effortless lighting management. For example, you could have RGB led lighting that scrolls red and green. Or you could even override your exterior lighting’s “normal” turn-off time so that the lights stay on throughout the party’s duration (e.g., to help people see their way safely back to their cars). A great product to consider: Philips Hue, your personal wireless lighting system.
