Lighting Trends: Our Picks from the Dallas International Lighting Market
In January, Jeff Seigal (one of our owners) and Bonnie Forbes (our Allston showroom manager) left our frigid New England winter behind and headed south for the Dallas International Lighting Market, a semi-annual event showcasing all the latest and greatest in the lighting industry.
If you’re not familiar with the Dallas Market Center, here’s some background. Founded in 1957, the DMC boasts “the most complete wholesale marketplace in the world.” Its four buildings total more than five million square feet roughly twice the size of the Empire State Building. In addition, the Dallas Market Center offers more than 1500 permanent showrooms featuring thousands of product lines ranging from lighting to garden accessories to everything in between.
Here’s a small sampling of the lighting products that wowed us.
Hubbardton Forge’s Cityscape Pendant. We’re big fans of Vermont-based Hubbardton Forge. The company defines itself as “modern American blacksmiths” and this gorgeous pendant in a burnished steel finish certainly shows us why. Residential Lighting said, “Another great high-design LED fixture: the Cityscape pendant from Hubbardton Forge is a showstopper, with two 25W 2700K LEDs illuminating metal rods on both sides.” Available in a 4’6″ lenght and a 2′ width, this fixture is tentatively shipping in April.
Quoizel’s Ribbon Pendant. The folks at Quoizel describe themselves as artisans, and for good reason: so much imagination and flair goes into each design. Quoizel’s Ribbon collection of pendants, flush mounts and sconces are sure to be a conversation piece in any home. Even better? It’s available in our Allston showroom. Stop by and experience it in person, or see the collection on our website.
AFX Lighting’s Noble Pro Undercabinet Light. We’re exicted about this product for two important reasons
- This LED fixture has switchable color temperature. Not sure what works in your kitchen? Find the setting that works for you, set it and forget it. It also comes with a Hi/Low switch as well.
- It provides plenty of flexibility since you can opt for a plug or hard wiring, and comes in a variety of finishes to best complement your kitchen.

Visual Comfort & Co. American interior and fashion designer Kelly Wearstler has partnered with Visual Comfort to debut her “raw and refined” lighting collection. We love the crackle glass shades juxtaposed with the clean brass finishings. This is one of her many inspired pieces. Be on the lookout for this and other incredible items this summer.
Which one is your favorite? Do you have any technical questions about specs or installation? We want to hear it all!
