Introducing Philips Hue in our Waltham Lighting Showroom
We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of Philips Hue to our Waltham lighting showroom.
What is Philips Hue?
Combining the energy efficiency of LED with wireless technology, Philips Hue lamps and light switches easily integrate with your tablet, smartphone, and other interfacing devices.
As the Philips Hue website says, “Philips Hue is your personal wireless lighting system that lets you easily control your light and create the right ambiance for every moment. Bring your smart home to life with the most connected light in the world.”
Philips Hue is available in three flavors:
- Hue White. Experience easy control of LED lamps in color temperatures that are similar to your existing lamps.
- Hue White Ambiance. Remember our article about tunable white LEDs? The Philips Hue White Ambiance can provide similar effects, whether you want a blue-white light when you wake up or warmer white when you’re reading at night.
- Hue White and Color Ambiance. This flavor essentially combines tunable white with RGB technology, resulting in bright colors as well as a range of white light outputs.

Philips Hue Q&A:
We sat down with our assistant showroom manager in Waltham, Timothy Carroll, to ask him some questions about Philips Hue.
Q: What’s the pitch for Philips Hue and why is Wolfers stocking this emerging technology?
Timothy: The Hue can be a great way to introduce wireless lighting/controls into your home. Plus, Philips Hue is easy to set up and use. Check out the pic below that’s one of our lighting consultants, Marty Whitney, operating everything from her iPad. Note: currently, Wolfers is the only lighting showroom in Massachusetts where you can get this technology.
Q: Why should people buy Philips Hue products from Wolfers instead of an online store or big box store?
Timothy: At Wolfers, we do so much more than simply sell “products.” We share ideas, suggestions, and tips in other words, you get a full-blown “experience” when you walk in the door. Meaning, we ask questions about your project and your space. We learn what your needs are and then offer suggestions based on your needs.
As for the Hue itself, we’ll be able to explain what you need to know about it, including which particular product will make sense for your space. You can’t get that level of customer service from an online store or even a big-box store that sells everything under the sun, not just lighting. But with us, lighting is what we live and breathe every day. Plus, you get to see Philips Hue in action.
Q: Can the Philips Hue lamps connect with existing smart devices, like a phone or iPad?
Timothy: Yes, Philips Hue can connect with Apple, Android, Alexa, Nest, Cortana, Samsung SmartThings, Vivint, and Smart Home.
Q: Where in my home would Philips Hue add value or fun?
Timothy: Here are some general suggestions off the top of my head. But if you come in and talk to our lighting experts, they’ll be able to provide more ideas based on what you’re trying to accomplish in your home.
- Set your lights to welcome you home with timers or motion sensors.
- Use the color scenes to create ambiance or a certain “mood.
- Sync your lights to music (think “disco mode”).
- Use the lights as a way to augment your circadian rhythms all by simply adjusting the color of the light.
Q: Are there specific Philips Hue items we’re stocking in the Waltham showroom?
Timothy: At this time, if it’s in our catalog, we likely have it. Currently stocked items include the following:
Hue White Starter Kit (2 bulbs + a bridge). This is an easy way to get into the Hue family.
Hue White Ambiance Doublepack BR30. Experiment with total control in your recessed lighting.
Hue White Ambiance Fair Ceiling Light. Hue isn’t just lamps! This sleek flush mount features the Hue white for the perfect warm or cool light, depending on the time of day or your activity.
