Designer Lighting Brands: Say Hello to Cerno
We love the Cerno story. Founders Nick Sheridan, Dan Wacholder, and Bret Englander grew up together in Laguna Beach, California, in the 80s. The threesome credits Dan’s late grandfather, Steve, as their biggest source of inspiration. Steve lived to be 101 years old and spent much of his life on a rural homestead where he had to make and fix most of the objects needed to survive.
This fueled the boys’ passion for bringing to life the ideas they had swirling around in their own heads. As the Cerno website notes, “Believing that something that does not exist can exist, is the most important step in the creative process.”
Today, Cerno designs and manufactures innovative LED lighting fixtures and furniture. In this brief video, you can learn more about the people behind the company.
Below are some of our current favorites from Cerno, all of which combine gorgeous woods with the power of LED. Another important note: Cerno designs and manufactures all of its lighting products in the US.
1. Vix Pendant. If you want functional, unobtrusive light in a cool design, you’re going to love the Vix Pendant, which is available in two lengths, 34 and 48 inches (we have the 34″ on display in Waltham and Allston).
There’s something special about the solid walnut juxtaposed with the aluminum canopy, and the 2700K LEDs cast light down (perfect for illuminating a table or kitchen island) and up for ambient light. Check out the two shots above that demonstrate what we mean.
2. Levo Swing Arm Sconce. Part sconce, part reading light, the Cerno website describes this product best: “The goal for the Levo was to create a bedside wall fixture with great task lighting articulation that was intuitive enough to be used without prior knowledge of the fixture – all the while making it slender, sexy, and very robust.”
We think the folks at Cerno accomplished all that, and then some. Features worth noting: the static light is dimmable, the solid wood and aluminum swing arm serves as the on/off “switch,” and a USB port is included with the fixture. The 2700K LEDs provide a lovely warm tone. See it on display in Waltham and Allston.
Here’s a video that shows how it works.
3. Silva Giant Floor Lamp. Thanks to its size, this floor lamp can hold its own in large spaces. Cerno describes it as having a “huge personality” and we couldn’t agree more. You really need to see it in person, which is easy enough to do since we have it on display in both showrooms. We love the contrast between the walnut finish and white linen shade. And the fact it features a dimmable LED light source makes it equal parts funky and functional.
As always, if you have any questions, we’re happy to help. Make an appointment with one of our lighting consultants today.
