Designer Lighting Brands: Our Top Picks from Lightovation 2017

Posted on by admin

Another year, another Lightovation, the annual international lighting show held in Dallas every January.

This year, Jeff Seigal (one of our owners) and Joyce Gravel (our Waltham showroom manager) headed to the Lone Star state to take in the latest and greatest offerings from lighting manufacturers around the world.

Here are three designer lighting brands that especially impressed Jeff and Joyce.

1. Corbett Lighting

Corbett is producing some incredibly gorgeous and on-trend fixtures, such as aged brass and hand-blown glass. “Sputnik”-style chandeliers are also capturing everyone’s attention.

By the way, it’s not just Corbett, either. The entire Littman Brands family (which owns Corbett as well as others, like Hudson Valley Lighting and Troy Lighting) is infusing these themes across all its brands. Check out the tweet below.

In regards to Corbett, we’ve been fans for a long time. We love this brand’s whimsy and the fact so many of its fixtures truly make a statement. Here are some favorite pieces…

 Corbett's Vixen Flush Mount

This Two Light Ceiling Flush in Polished Nickel. Talk about a conversation starter! You’ll find this elegant fixture in both of our showrooms.

2. Tech Lighting

The biggest Lightovation takeaway regarding Tech Lighting? The Element Reflections decorative recessed fixture (above).

Joyce says, “The fixture is designed so that it not only lights the space, but also the decorative accents. This feature transforms the fixture from a functional element to a beautiful accent in the ceiling.”

Tech Lighting’s innovative and aesthetically pleasing approach isn’t a surprise to us, of course. For years, this company has been creating high-quality fixtures that people can use throughout the home both decorative and task-oriented alike.

Below are some of our top Tech Lighting picks:

The Alva Pendant. We love how Tech Lighting uses vintage Edison-style bulbs and turns them into a piece that’s one hundred percent this century. The pendant has an LED light source in the “base” of the bulb that casts light down through the laser-etched filament. You can personalize this piece by choosing from a variety of finishes and cord colors. See it live in Waltham and Allston.

The Patrona Suspension. Tech Lighting describes this piece best: “Sophisticated and undeniably beautiful, the twenty-two precisely executed metal stems of the Patrona chandelier from Tech Lighting each bear a sleek crystal shade illuminated by a gently diffused LED. The stems form tiers which taper at varying angles and lengths to create a stunning, modern interpretation of the classic crystal chandelier.” See it in Satin Nickel in Allston and Satin Gold in Waltham.

WAC Lighting blew us away by introducing color-changing technology in a recessed light and an exterior wall sconce. The best part? You can control the colors through an app. While this technology might not be the first of its kind, putting it into a usable residential product is innovative.

We already love WAC Lighting for its functional, yet pretty sconces, recessed step lights, and architectural pieces. Here’s a perfect example…

LEDme Button Light. This recessed OR surface-mountable puck light is perfect for use in and under cabinets, closets, or wherever you might want an accent light.

We can’t wait to show you the latest innovations from these and other designer lighting brands. We’ll keep you posted as items come into our showrooms.
