	Beginning Jan. 1, 2011, in California and Jan. 1, 2012, throughout the U.S., incandescent lamps must meet more stringent lumens/watt requirements. In other words, the lamps must produce the same amount of lumens (brightness) for less wattage. The changes begin with the 100-watt general service incandescent lamp, which must now use no more than 72 watts to produce the same brightness. Incandescent reflector lamps are also affected. Additionally, the packaging of U.S. lamps is changing mid-2011, emphasizing lumens rather than watts. The new 72 watt lamp, for instance, will be sold as a 1500, 2000, etc. lumens lamp instead.
