The Carlisle
House
The Carlisle House, an 1849 Greek Revival-style
farmstead, is the 25th anniversary centerpiece project for the television
show, This Old House. A portion of the proceeds from its sale will
endow a new scholarship for the building arts.
The
Lighting Challenge:
Wolfers was chosen to design and install the lighting
for the entire home project. Each room posed a unique set of lighting
challenges, some of which are outlined below.
The
Wolfers Solution:
This Old House proposed a dramatic reuse of the
existing timberframe barn as a "living hall." The area
includes a Rumford fireplace with granite hearth, fieldstone surround
and recycled oak lintel. To accentuate this key feature, we installed
a rail
system that washes light across the antique oak and highlights
its rustic charm.
In the kitchen we used a cable system to create
task
lighting over the island and counter top. In the library, flush
mount collars (rimless recessed lighting) create a seamless look
on the ceiling’s surface. For a dramatic finishing touch,
we enhanced the view of the grounds with landscape lighting.
