LED Lighting
Wolfers Lighting is aware of the ever-changing development of new light emitting diode (LED) light sources. LEDs are good options for many residential applications - including decorative pendants and sconces, under-cabinet, cove, and recessed lighting.
LEDs offer an energy efficient, environmentally-friendly alternative to incandescent light bulbs, compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), and most halogen light bulbs. LEDs last longer than most incandescent light bulbs and CFLs because they don’t have a filament that will burn out. They also have a cool light output, with no UV or heat energy, so they won’t get especially hot. LEDs are illuminated by the movement of electrons in a semiconductor material, and they last as long as a standard transistor.
When LEDs were first produced, the main criticism was its high cost, due to the advanced semi-conductor material used to produce the light bulbs. Over the past 10 years, the price of this material has dropped dramatically, making LEDs more affordable home lighting applications. LEDs are still more expensive than conventional incandescent bulbs, but the overall energy savings on electric bills and low maintenance costs create savings over the life of the lamp.
The development and growth of new LED light sources may be hurt by a flood of inferior products because they are very prone to heat and therefore will lose life if their thermals are not managed properly. Wolfers is focused on finding products that will perform as described by proven manufacturers.
At Wolfers Lighting we suggest choosing your light source based on performance and application. There is no question that LED technology will continue to develop rapidly in the future. Wolfers Lighting will continue to screen these new LED products and help our clients make the best selections for their particular situation.
